| Stone Age Philosophy was recorded in 1995 in Mark's old house in Union, NJ. They had ripped the basement apart and build a recording studio with a lounge area, separate live room, control room, and laundry room. If you listen closely, you can hear the dryer going off on a lot of the album. By the time they were recorded, most of the tunes had been kicking around for awhile. In fact, five of them had already been recorded on the Your Name Here 5 Song Demo. The rest were written in the intervening years while playing bars and rock clubs in northern and central Jersey. The line-up for SAP was Mark Zampella-guitar and piano, Rob Errera-bass and vocals, Paul Bastante-vocals and perc, and Drew Zampella-drums. One of the more interesting tracks is Ode to an Old Man and a Baby, which is basically vocals and percussion. Only the percussion was Drew making all sorts of noises by beating his body with sticks and shit. Pretty cool. Nick the Bastard was recorded several years prior to SAP, but they felt it fit in with the vibe of the album. Dad quickly became the bar favorite from that CD, but it was The Homecoming King that actually got some airplay. A DJ at WDHA took a liking to it and played it fairly regularly for a month or three SAP was recorded on an 8 track ADAT, but Mark mixed it at a recording studio in NYC that he used to work at called Hip Pocket Studios, which is why it has sort of a quasi lo-fi over-produced sound. |
